The Chobe day trip in brief
Chobe National Park is in Botswana, not at the falls. A day trip leaves from Victoria Falls, crosses the border at Kazungula and returns the same day. The Shearwater example lists about 10 hours, a minimum of 2 guests and $229 per adult in 2026. Children under 12 get 25 percent off on that product.
The day has two main parts of 3 hours each. A boat trip on the river is followed by a game drive, with a buffet lunch in between. Wildlife sightings depend on the day and cannot be promised.
This is an independent guide, not the park or an operator. Check the current price and what is included with the operator you choose.

Botswana entry rules at a glance
The rules depend on your passport. Check them with the Botswana embassy before you travel.
| Traveller | Entry to Botswana | Note |
|---|---|---|
| German with a regular passport | No visa | The visit limit is 90 days |
| German with a provisional passport | Visa needed | Apply before you travel |
| Nationals who need a visa | eVisa | Tourist single entry 300 BWP for up to 1 month, multiple entry 500 BWP for up to 3 months |
| Children travelling without one or both parents | Documents required | Birth certificate or certified copy with parents' details, plus written consent from the missing parent(s) |
The visa fees apply to nationals who need a visa. They are not a charge for German visitors, who need none. Do not assume the German rule covers other nationalities.

What the day involves
Border, boat, game drive and lunch.
The border crossing
The trip crosses into Botswana at Kazungula. The Zimbabwe to Botswana crossing and the Zambia to Botswana crossing are not the same counter, so ask your operator which one your trip uses. Bring your passport. Border processing time varies, so do not plan a tight onward connection for the same evening.
KAZA Univisa and the day trip
The Zambian immigration authority sells the KAZA Univisa for $50, valid up to 30 days within 12 months for Zambia and Zimbabwe, and names Botswana day trips via Kazungula. That does not exempt you from Botswana's own entry rules. An overnight stay in Botswana is not the day-trip case.
Visa and practical tips โBoat trip and game drive
The boat trip and the game drive each last about 3 hours, with a buffet lunch between them. The boat is on the river and the drive goes through the park. Check whether park fees and transfers are in the price.
Getting to Kasane
One 2026 hotel brochure lists a transfer from a Victoria Falls hotel to Kasane airport at about 2 hours and $93 per person each way, shared with at least 2 guests, without visas. The figure is an estimate that needs confirming. It is not the price of a day tour.
Children
The day trip gives children under 12 a 25 percent discount. Botswana asks for a birth certificate or certified copy that shows the parents. If a child travels without one or both parents, the embassy asks for a consent statement.
Health
The German Foreign Office lists a high malaria risk around the falls and the Zambezi valley all year. Use mosquito protection and ask a doctor about prophylaxis. Zimbabwe and Zambia ask for yellow fever proof if you arrive from a risk area, so check your itinerary.
What to check before you book
Small differences that change the day.
Which side you start from
Ask where the pickup is and which border post the trip uses.
What the price covers
The Shearwater example lists the boat trip, the game drive and lunch. Park fees and drinks may be listed differently on other offers. Ask for the total.
Minimum group size
The example needs at least 2 guests. A published offer does not show free seats on your day.
Cancellation terms
Terms differ by operator and cannot be carried over. Read them before you pay.
Chobe day trip: frequently asked questions
How much is a Chobe day trip from Victoria Falls?
The Shearwater example lists $229 per adult in 2026 for about 10 hours, with a minimum of 2 guests. Children under 12 get 25 percent off. Other operators list other prices, so compare what each includes.
Do I need a visa for Botswana?
Germans with a regular German passport need none, according to the Botswana embassy in Germany, and the limit is 90 days. A provisional passport needs a visa, and other nationalities differ. Check the rules before you travel.
Does the KAZA Univisa cover Botswana?
The Zambian authority names Botswana day trips via Kazungula. It does not remove Botswana's own entry rules, and it is not a visa for every country in the region.
Can I go on a Chobe trip with children?
Yes, with the right papers. Bring a birth certificate or certified copy that shows the parents. If a child travels without one or both parents, bring a written consent statement.
Will I see elephants?
Sightings depend on the day, and no operator can promise them. The boat trip and the game drive give two chances in different settings.
